Welcome to ASG Chicago!

The Original Sewing and Quilt Expo wrapped up on Saturday, April 2 and we welcomed 21 new members to the Chicago Chapter. We’d like to send a big congratulations to Debbie from Palos Park who won the new member raffle prize at the Expo. Enjoy that prize, Debbie!

Membership to the American Sewing Guild offers so much to sewing enthusiasts. Granted there are the discounts (be sure to check the ASG national site and the ASG Chicago site, new members), but there also are neighborhood group meetings where you can meet up with fellow sewists, quilters, crafters, and fiber lovers. All members should free to visit as many neighborhood groups as you’d like.

At the Expo, we meet few members from Central Illinois/Peoria and Springfield/Lincolnland chapters. Our ASG friends from Peoria shared some information about the Make It With Wool competition sponsored by the American Sheep Industry Association. A few of us found (and bought) some lovely wool at the Expo and are thinking about what to possibly make for this competition later this year. Check this blog in the future for more details on that competition or visit the MIWW link above. There was so much inspiration at the Expo. We also found vendors who are ASG members, such as June Colburn Designs II and Some Art Fabric, just a name a couple. When you can, try to support our ASG members who are retailers.

So, at the end of it all, it was a thrill to see a good turnout at the Expo, to have a great group joining the ASG, and hope everyone considers coming out next year to shop, take classes, enter the fashion show competitions, or even volunteer.  Speaking of volunteers, thank you to all of our ASG Chicago volunteers who help at our booth and the Expo. Great job!

In the words of Sue Hausman from America Sews with Sue Hausman, “Happy Sewing!”

Congrats, Debbie! Winner of the new member raffle prize.
